Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LABG) : LAGB is a kind of weight-loss or Bariatric procedure. Done with a Laparoscopic approach, there are small incisions involved in this surgery. The incisions are made in the Upper Abdomen, then an adjustable band is put around the upper part of the Stomach. This way a small Stomach pouch is formed and because of the small pouch, the patients feel full sooner that is small pouch means lesser quantity of food. Thus, the patient’s weight is maintained. The band can be adjusted by addition of or removal of fluid in a balloon, which is located around the band. This process is done via a port that is positioned under the skin of the Abdomen and is connected to the band with the help of a tube. Dr. Randeep recommends this surgery for patients with severe Obesity and have tried other forms of the weight loss methods without any success.
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy: Also referred to as Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastric Sleeve Procedure, this procedure boosts the process of weight loss majorly. This surgery is done by removing the outer section of Stomach (almost 90 percent); thus, the overall size of the Stomach is reduced, bringing it to the size and shape of a Banana. This ultimately keeps the amount of food intake restricted. There is no need for removal or bypassing the Intestines.
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass:In this, first step is to reduce the size of the Stomach by dividing it with Gastric Staples. This way, a pouch is created at the upper section of the Stomach. In the next step, the Small Intestine is divided into two parts – the Roux Limb and the Biliopancreatic Limb.Then the Roux limb is joined to the newly created pouch, so that this pouch can empty food contents into the bowel. This results into a changed Digestive Tract, which the lower section of the Stomach and a part of the Small Intestine, are bypassed. Being a minimally invasive surgery, there is faster recovery and less pain involved.
