Critical Care Medicine

The Department of Critical Care Medicine at Artemis, provides compassionate, sophisticated and expert care to the critically ill patients. Our approach to care will weigh on the ethical principles and the cost-effectiveness. The quality patient care is optimized through a multidisciplinary team approach including respiratory and physical therapists, critical care fellows, intensivists, nurses, nutrition specialists, pharmacists, and social workers. We provide the patient care in two multidisciplinary ICUs which totals to nearly 68 beds accounting for an approximate 25% of the total number of beds at our hospital. We provide the in-house consultant level coverage round the clock i.e. 24×7 since we believe this valuable resource will improve the likelihood of survival for the critically ill patients by providing them with appropriate supervision and reducing the complications due to medical errors or poorly performed procedures.

Pulmonary Medicine

The Department of Pulmonology at Artemis Hospital deals with the diseases which affect the lungs and the respiratory system. Our department is integrated with the department of the critical care in order to provide our patient requiring life support with comprehensive care. Our team of highly qualified intensive care specialists are available round the clock.

We have the capability for evaluating and managing the entire range of the acute and chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD, Asthma and respiratory allergies, Lung Cancer, ILD, sleep related disorders, chest wall disorders and the auto immune disorders. Besides the expertise, our department is well equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies in the field of respiratory care.

Our Facilities

  • Sleep Laboratory

For patients with obstructive sleep apnoea, disorders of excessive snoring, obesity hypoventilation syndrome and day time sleepiness, the sleep studies are done regularly. In a state of the art sleep lab, the facility for diagnostic as well as titration studies are a regular feature of department.

  • Video Assisted Bronchoscopy

The videobronchoscope and non videofibrescopes involving ultrathin bronchoscope with the comprehensive gadget of accessories are available both for the therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. The unexplained respiratory symptoms, non resolving radiology shadows, foreign body aspirations, blood in phlegm, lung cancers are some of the cases wherein these facilities are used.

  • Pulmonary Function Laboratory

Our PFT lab is well equipped with advanced Morgans spiroair with the provision of doing the lung diffusion and volume studies apart from the routine spiromtery by formally trained and experienced technicians. Also the preoperative evaluation for patients undergoing thoracic and the extrathoracic surgeries are regularly done here. Further, the facility of bed side spirometry is also available for the patients who cannot be moved to the lab.

  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation

For the smoker who desire to quit, our education and counselling sessions are an integral part of the outdoor services. The programmed rehabilitation program offers the graduated muscle exercises as well as training for those suffering from confining respiratory ailments such as the chronic respiratory failure and advanced COPD.

An experienced team of thoracic surgeons at Artemis performs all the types of lung and thoracic surgeries. The comprehensive respiratory care includes assistance of the well qualified technicians and dedicated chest physiotherapists. Our doctors are ably aided by our team of expert paramedical staff.

The latest technologies including the established ones such as ECMO is ARDS and the evolving ones like application of Respiratory Dialysis systems in the respiratory failure caused by COPD are already in practice at Artemis Hospital. All the aspects of the lung cancer diagnosis include the PET scans which are available at Artemis Hospital.
